Next year, a live-action version of “How to Train Your Dragon” will hit theaters. The DreamWorks Animation blockbuster has been adapted by Universal Pictures and is set to debut on March 14, 2025.

The production is helmed by Dean DeBlois, who also created the three feature-length animated films in the series from 2010 to 2019. This will be his first live-action feature film as a director. Previously, he worked on the animated movie “Lilo & Stitch” and the documentary “Heima”, dedicated to the band Sigur Rós.

“How to Train Your Dragon” is a series loosely based on the books by Cressida Cowell. The story follows the adventures of Hiccup, the son of a village chief whose people face off against dragons. Instead of subduing one of the creatures, the teenage Viking befriends it. The first installment of the series was highly praised by audiences and critics alike, as were its sequels. Together, the films grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide and launched a larger universe, including animated series.

A teaser has been released online, featuring Hiccup (played by Mason Thames), his father (Gerard Butler reprising his role from the animation), and the dragon Toothless.
