Stephen King praises the earlier adaptation of “The Three-Body Problem.” “Terrifying”
In March, the series “The 3 Body Problem,” based on the novel by Cixin Liu, debuted, created by the well-known “Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss. This is the second television adaptation of the book—the Chinese version, titled “Three-Body,” aired in 2023.
The American version was reviewed by Stephen King last month, and now he has also commented on the Chinese version.
3 BODY (Amazon Prime) is the original Chinese version of THE 3-BODY PROBLEM (Netflix). Both are good. The Chinese version is harder SF, but the implications of its later episodes are terrifying, Lovecraftian: “The lifeless noise of the universe.”
Let’s recall what King wrote about the American version:
THE 3 BODY PROBLEM (Netflix): Extraordinary science fiction series–sprawling, thought-provoking, immersive. The scenes of “first contact” are chilling and awe-inspiring.
The Netflix adaptation of “The Three-Body Problem” will have two more seasons. The Chinese version consists of thirty episodes in total. In US, the series is available on Prime Video. The first two episodes also can be watched on YouTube with English subtitles.
