Natalie Portman celebrates the 25th anniversary of “The Phantom Menace.” “Still in awe”
It’s been 25 years since the premiere of “The Phantom Menace,” the chronologically first part of George Lucas’s saga. In celebration of this occasion, Natalie Portman—who played Padmé Amidala in the film—posted a commemorative message on Instagram.
The actress stated:
25 years since the premiere of Phantom Menace… and now it’s coming back to theaters for a limited time starting today! Still in awe of all the people who brought these films to life and George Lucas’s storytelling. #maythe4thbewithyou

In the last decade, we’ve seen many actors from the Star Wars series return to their roles on screen. Stars from the original films appeared in the Disney trilogy, and with the Disney+ series, we also saw Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen return. However, there hasn’t been a place for Padmé—Portman commented on this matter as follows:
I have no information on this. No one’s ever asked me to return, but I’m open to it.
Originally, Padmé had more scenes in “Revenge of the Sith”—Lucas cut a storyline where she, along with other politicians, laid the groundwork for the future rebellion.
