The first two weeks of January are behind us, and a few Polish premieres have already hit cinemas: the family comedy Dalej jazda, the latest installment in the Kleks series, Kleks i wynalazek Filipa Golarza, and Patryk Vega’s newest film, Putin, which has been poorly received by both audiences and critics. But there is much more to look forward to this year—here are the most anticipated Polish films of 2025.

Chopin, Chopin!

One of the most significant figures in Polish culture—and one of the most recognized Poles worldwide—has long been a source of inspiration for Polish filmmakers. Chopin’s biography and episodes from his life have been explored in films such as Aleksander Ford’s Młodość Chopina (1951), Jerzy Antczak’s Chopin. Pragnienie miłości (2002), and Andrzej Żuławski’s Błękitna nuta (1991). The latest production by Akson Studio, directed by its founder Michał Kwieciński (Filip, 2022), is rumored to be one of the most expensive Polish films ever made. Set in 1835, the story takes place during the 25-year-old Chopin’s life in Paris, where he was a regular guest at aristocratic salons. Chopin is portrayed from a less conventional angle—as a life-loving, charming dandy admired by women and revered by artists. Eryk Kulm, who gained significant popularity from his leading role in Kwieciński’s previous film, will play Chopin. The cast also includes Maja Ostaszewska (as Chopin’s mother), Karolina Gruszka, Michał Pawlik, Martyna Byczkowska (known for her role as Aniela in the series 1670), and Dominika Ostałowska.

Dom dobry sen zły

The title says it all—yes, in 2025, Wojciech Smarzowski will release his newest film. Four years after Wesele (2021), the director once again holds up a mirror to Polish society, encouraging viewers to confront their national flaws and unresolved traumas. The title Dom dobry sen zły (roughly translated as A Good Home, A Bad Dream) echoes Smarzowski’s earlier film Dom zły (The Dark House, 2009). Though it’s unclear whether the connection is intentional, violence appears to be the thematic link between the two. The trailer teases a realistic and grim drama about the various faces of domestic violence. The cast includes Tomasz Schuchardt, Agata Kulesza, Agata Turkot, Arkadiusz Jakubik, Maria Sobocińska, and Andrzej Konopka. The film is set to premiere on November 7, 2025.

Ministranci

This new film by Piotr Domalewski, the acclaimed director of Hiacynt (2021) and Cicha noc (2017), is highly anticipated, especially since it’s produced by Aurum Film—the studio behind Ostatnia rodzina (2016) and Boże Ciało (2019). Ministranci (The Altar Boys) tells the story of a group of teenage boys who serve as altar servers. Rebelling against the rigid rules of the Church, the disillusionment of adults, and the indifference to social injustice, they decide to take matters into their own hands. They plant bugs in confessionals to uncover the problems troubling their neighbors and create their own plans for atoning for those sins.

Pojedynek

Łukasz Palkowski, the director of hits like Bogowie and Najlepszy, returns with a new film. Set in 1939, Pojedynek (The Duel) centers on Karol Grabowski (played by Jakub Gierszał), a world-renowned pianist imprisoned in a former monastery alongside other members of the Polish intelligentsia. An ambitious Russian agent, Vasily Zarubin (played by Aidan Gillen, known as Littlefinger from Game of Thrones), takes it upon himself to indoctrinate the talented musician and break the prisoners’ resistance. Grabowski, respected by his fellow inmates, becomes a key figure in Zarubin’s plans to sway the Poles to the Soviet side. A tense psychological and intellectual duel unfolds between the two.

Vinci 2

Juliusz Machulski is directing the sequel to his iconic crime comedy. Set in modern times, Vinci 2 follows the adventures of Cuma, an art thief. Robert Więckiewicz reprises his role as the now-retired thief, enjoying a peaceful life on the Spanish coast with his wife Carmen. His tranquility is disrupted by an offer for another lucrative heist back in Poland. Vinci 2 is expected to be a box office hit—previous sequels to classic Polish comedies, like the Kogel-mogel series, have proven the public’s enthusiasm for revisiting beloved stories.

Zamach na papieża

Władysław Pasikowski and Bogusław Linda reunite for a thrilling new project. The director and actor duo behind some of the biggest hits in Polish action cinema (Kroll, 1991, and Pigs, 1992) are teaming up again for Zamach na papieża (The Assassination of the Pope), a tense thriller inspired by true events. The film is set to premiere in October, but little is known about its plot. A few key scenes were recently shot in the Bieszczady mountains. Bogusław Linda has revealed that his character is a sniper and former soldier. According to producer Ewa Jastrzębska, the protagonist will face numerous moral dilemmas while carrying out his assigned mission.
