What did MCU’s Thanos look like before Brolin played him? BTS photos from “Avengers”
Today, Thanos—the greatest antagonist of the Infinity Saga in the MCU—is associated with the performance of Josh Brolin, who portrayed the titan using motion capture technology. As a result, Brolin’s Thanos is a computer-generated character, and it was in this form that we saw him in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, as well as earlier in Guardians of the Galaxy and the post-credits scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron.
However, Thanos’ first appearance in the MCU dates back to the original Avengers film from 2012. The titan is seen in a post-credits scene, and it wasn’t Brolin who portrayed him but Damion Poitier. Furthermore, the character seen on screen wasn’t a CGI creation but the result of the work of makeup artists. In the film, his silhouette and face were shrouded in shadow, but below you can see how Thanos appeared in that form. The facial features and helmet were handcrafted by Thom Floutz.
