Movies Where Most Of The Characters Die
If you’re tired of traditional movie endings where characters miraculously escape death, then this list is perfect for you! In these films, it’s hard to find an overly happy ending. Here are 6 movies where most of the cast dies!
Spoiler alert!
300
Remember 300 with Gerard Butler? It’s the movie where 300 Spartans stand against a Persian army numbering over 100,000 soldiers. 300 is loosely inspired by the real Battle of Thermopylae, which took place in 480 BC during the Greco-Persian Wars. Just like in history, in the movie, the Persians win the battle through treachery, and Leonidas and his men perish in the final showdown.
300 is a perfect example of a movie where most of the cast dies because out of the 300 Spartans, 299 warriors perish. In the film, only Leonidas’ wife, wounded Spartan Dilios, and the Persian king Xerxes survive, and the deaths of the heroes inspire the Greeks to fight and ultimately triumph.
The Hateful Eight
I hope you’re not surprised to see Quentin Tarantino in the list of movies where most of the cast dies. After all, Tarantino is known for bloodshed and enjoys killing off his characters. That’s why we could probably make a whole list dedicated solely to Tarantino. Meanwhile, let’s describe what happened in The Hateful Eight that landed it in this compilation.
In The Hateful Eight, it’s hard to pinpoint a main character. Everyone seems to want just one thing: to wait out the snowstorm in the lodge and move on. Over time, it turns out that everyone is hiding secrets, and all are somehow connected. Furthermore, as with most Tarantino films, as the snowstorm intensifies, so does the discord between the characters, which escalates into a brawl, and ultimately into a collective death.
The Departed
The Departed is one of my favorite Martin Scorsese films and an Oscar winner for Best Picture. It’s one of the greatest gangster films because in this deadly cat-and-mouse chase, both the mouse and the cat die. Isn’t that what gangster showdowns are all about? Bloodshed?
As the name suggests, “Infiltration” is about infiltration. It tells the story of a mole in the police force trying to uncover a mole in the criminal underworld. A undercover cop who infiltrates the ranks of the Irish-American mafia in Boston. In the action, both the cat and the mouse, and almost everyone who comes into contact with them, die. Only two people from the cast survive.
Don’t Look Up
One of the biggest cinematic disappointments. This is an example of a film that shows that a good cast won’t always save a poor idea. I’m not alone in my opinion either. Film critics criticized the production for its superficiality, excessive grotesqueness, and heavy-handed humor. The film appears in this list because everyone in the cast dies – the whole planet! Well, almost.
In Don’t Look Up, there’s no hope left for the planet. It’s certain that a comet heading towards Earth will strike the planet, and since people ignore the threat, they’ll perish. And that’s exactly what happens. Everyone dies. Almost. Those who endure until the end credits will know that not everyone perished. Who survived? Watch the film!
Rogue One
The first spin-off in the Star Wars universe and one of Disney’s most acclaimed productions from the series tells the story of rebels on a mission to steal the Death Star plans. Determined to fight, the rebels perish for the Alliance’s first significant victory over the Empire. They become immortal martyrs who tried to save the galaxy from tyranny.
The Others
The Others is a horror film starring Nicole Kidman that I recommend watching even if you’re not a fan of horror movies. You won’t see bloodshed or hear thousands of screams here. Instead, you’ll meet a family struggling with an unusual illness, and by the end of the film, you’ll realize that you’ve been deceived by the director because the entire cast of the film is actually deceased.
The movie tells the story of a single mother and her two children who suffer from a light allergy. They are so photosensitive that they must live in darkness. The family hires three servants to help, and almost immediately, strange things start happening, leading the family to a state of paranoia. It’s only at the end of the film that the family realizes they have been dead from the beginning. Why and how did they die? You’ll find out by watching the film!
