Actors You Didn't Know Were Roommates

It’s said that Hollywood doesn’t favor friendships. However, some actors have proven otherwise. Just mention Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Speaking of them, did you know they were once roommates? Ben Affleck doesn’t recommend Matt Damon as a roommate. Why? You’ll find out from this text. Here are the actors you didn’t know were roommates.

Paul Rudd  and Olivia Colman

Did you know that Paul Rudd and Olivia Colman have been friends for over 20 years? Few people knew about it until Olivia Colman decided to prank Rudd during his interview on BBC Radio 1. In 2023, Paul Rudd was a guest on the morning show on BBC Radio 1 hosted by Greg James. During the conversation, the actor helped some listeners solve their problems. That’s when he received an unexpected call from his friend Olivia Colman. The actress called the show pretending to be someone else and asked Rudd what he would do if his good friend came to London without telling him, and he found out about it from a breakfast radio show. Although Rudd initially listened attentively, ready to give advice, he began to worry when Colman referred to details of his own visit. He took a nervous breath when he realized that the caller was probably talking about him. Colman continued to ask if he would feel offended.

‘Personally, if it were me? Absolutely not,’ joked Rudd. James asked Colman to reveal her true identity, and then Rudd and Colman told the story of their friendship, revealing that Rudd had stayed with Colman years ago.”

Andrew Garfield, Eddie Redmayne, Robert Pattinson and Jamie Dornan

This quartet of Brits, now big stars known worldwide, was inseparable at the beginning of their journey to fame. All because Andrew Garfield, Eddie Redmayne, Robert Pattinson, and Jamie Dornan lived together at the start of their careers. According to reports from their close ones, the actors had a ritual where they would sit in one room every day and compare the rejection letters they received for the roles they auditioned for.

Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and Casey Affleck

The friendship story of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon is quite well-known, as the actors have collaborated on films multiple times and have shared their history while receiving awards for them. The actors were roommates for years, and Ben’s brother Casey also lived with them. However, Ben Affleck doesn’t exactly recommend Matt as a roommate. In a program hosted by James Corden, he mentioned that Matt was messy and didn’t pay bills. Ben even recounted a story where, tired of cleaning up after Matt, he and his brother conducted an experiment by stopping cleaning altogether, but Matt didn’t seem bothered living amidst the mess.

Jennifer Coolidge and Eddie Kaye Thomas

In the summer issue of British “GQ” in 2023, Jennifer Coolidge revealed that in the early 2000s, she lived with her American Pie co-star Eddie Kaye Thomas. The actress disclosed that they lived together for nearly two years. She joked that she wasn’t the love of his life because they had separate bedrooms on opposite sides of the hallway.

Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling

Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling are considered two of the most handsome men in Hollywood. So, I bet some of their young fans who dream of meeting them will be shocked when they read what I’m about to say. Justin Timberlake and Ryan Gosling were roommates! The actors lived together when they were kids. Justin Timberlake once revealed this in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres: “We were probably a little closer than the rest of the kids [on the show] only because we had to share a bathroom.” They were referring to their time on The Mickey Mouse Club, where they both starred. When they were filming together for the show, Ryan had to move into Justin’s house because the filming was in the USA, and Ryan’s mother still had to work in Canada.

Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito

I must admit, I had no idea about the friendship between Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito, so the information that they were even roommates was a pleasant surprise for me. Michael and Danny met while studying at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1966. Two years later, they became roommates because, as Michael Douglas reminisced in an interview with “The Talks,” when you enter show business and discover its true face, you start to value friends you knew before you found success.

Jonah Hill and Justin Long

I had no idea these gentlemen lived together! Jonah Hill and Justin Long were roommates before they achieved global success. Justin Long revealed this in an interview with Andy Cohen. He admitted that the best part of living together was that they had a blast, but the worst part was that they were equally messy. Justin Long also shared his experiences of their shared living situation with Conan O’Brien.

Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson

Owen Wilson is one of Wes Anderson’s favorite actors, and it’s no wonder. After all, Owen and Wes are old friends, and their adventures from the time they shared an apartment reportedly inspired Wes’s first feature film, Bottle Rocket, which Wes co-wrote with Wilson. Wes and Owen met during their second year at the University of Texas at Austin. They lived together, but their apartment wasn’t the nicest. The landlord refused to fix anything that broke in the house. So, they came up with the idea of staging a burglary to persuade the landlord to finally help them out. Owen and Wes even told the cops what happened in front of the landlord, but none of them believed them. Eventually, this whole incident became the inspiration for Bottle Rocket.
